Meet Lucas
Lucas is a weeper capuchin monkey (Cebus olivaceus) that was illegally owned but very loved and well cared for by his former owner. All of the owner’s children were grown and she was excited to have purchased a “permanent baby” that she could coddle and care for, but the stress of being forced to be a pet in an artificial environment led Lucas to repeatedly attack his owner. Within a year the lady was investigated by the police after numerous noise complaints, and two year old Lucas was confiscated and brought to Noah’s Ark in 2001. Lucas is bonded to his keepers and enjoys their affection, but he enjoys being a part of the capuchin group more. He is a very active primate and enjoys working for treats in his foraging balls, but he also loves a nice nap in the sun.
